Lucille Tollefson, age 86 of rural Viroqua passed away on Thursday afternoon,
April 13th, 2017 at Vernon Memorial Hospital in Viroqua surrounded by her family. She was born on December 17th, 1930 to Marion “Jake” and Vesta (Warren) Sidie. She was born at her grandparents’ home in rural Ferryville. She graduated from Viroqua High School in 1950. In September, 1948 she and Les were Homecoming king and queen. After high school she worked at the AAA (ASCS) office in Viroqua. On May 19th, 1951 she married Leslie “Les” Tollefson at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Viroqua. They moved to their present farm in 1954 and raised five children.
Her years on the farm were spent gardening, raising flowers, and sewing, She prepared many meals for threshing crews, tobacco harvest, family picnics and reunions on the farm. She worked side by side with Les milking cows, raising tobacco, and driving tractor. Les passed away in 2014, they were married for 62 years. She was the hub of the Esther Circle at Immanuel Church. She was a member of the neighborhood card club for over 50 years. She also made newborn layettes for the church and the hospital OB department.
She is survived by her five children; Linda (Stan) Zube, Roger (Marilyn) Tollefson, Daniel (Ann) Tollefson, Monte Tollefson, all of Viroqua, Cynthia (Steve) Cook of Iowa City, IA, Ten Grandchildren; Travis (Charlene) Tollefson of Fond du Lac, Nick (Leanne) Tollefson, Carl (Jenny) Zube, Sara (friend TJ) Tollefson, Tyler Tollefson, Ashley (Michael) Strasser, and Dylan Tollefson, all of Viroqua, Robert (Alyssa) Zube of Westby, Shane Cook of Los Altos Hills, CA, Ben (Kaitlyn) Cook of Iowa City, IA. She is also survived by 16 great-grandchildren and 3 step-great-grandchildren, as well as many other family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Leslie “Les” Tollefson, as well as other family and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 19th at Immanuel Lutheran Church at 10 a.m. with Pastor Kathy Ingbritsen officiating. Burial will take place in the Viroqua Cemetery. Family and friends may call on Tuesday from 5-7 p.m. at the Thorson Funeral Home in Viroqua, they may also call after 9 a.m. until the time of service at the church.
